Older Adult Assessment Series Information about the care of those over 65, derived from cutting-edge research and best practices, is now available to nurses and other providers in either print format or streaming video, at any time and at no cost, through Hartford Institute’s partnership with The American Journal of Nursing series called HOW TO TRY THIS - new topics, based on the Try This series, produced monthly, through February, 2009. Geriatric Nursing Education Consortium GNEC:
Preparing Nursing Students to Care for Older Adults; Hartford Institute working with American Association of Colleges of Nursing to enhance geriatric content in senior-level undergraduate nursing courses through train the trainer in the fundamentals of geriatric nursing and the use of geriatric curriculum resources.

Nursing Student Self Assessment Test:
Western University has a Geriatric Pretest (Self Assessment) that has been developed as part of their AACN/Hartford grant activities. The pretest is available without cost for entering/beginning NP students-you can sign in as a student. Test objectives were guided by the AACN BSN Geriatric Competencies.

Gerontological Certification:

We encourage nurses to become certified in gerontological nursing by taking the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) national certification exams. Certification is the best way to validate your expertise.

The gerontological nursing certification exam is now computer-based and available approximately 6 days a week in over 300 testing sites around the country.

Hosting a Geriatric Certification Review Course

The ANCC’s Institute for Credentialing Innovation offers hospitals the opportunity to Co-Host a 2-day Review Seminar for ANCC Certification in Gerontological Nursing examinations: Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Specialist in Gerontological Nursing, and Baccalaureate/Associate Degree Gerontological Exams.
