Specialty Practice- REASN Project
Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing,
College of Nursing, New York University
The REASN (Resourcefully Enhancing Aging in Specialty Nursing) project is a 4 year initiative, funded by the Atlantic Philanthropy established to deepen the involvement of specialty nurse associations in improving nursing competencies in providing care to older adults. This project will leverage the accomplishments of the Hartford Institute achieved in the past five years by working with specialty nursing associations to move to a new and higher level of engagement in geriatric care.
The main objectives of this project are:
- Create new and sustainable advanced geriatric training products and resources through collaborative relationships with 13 hospital-based specialty nursing associations.
- Create sustainable infrastructures for geriatric initiatives in 13 hospital-based specialty associations by strengthening the capacity of geriatric special interest groups.
- Expand, enhance and create new outreach capacity of Web Fellows at 40 specialty nursing associations to assure specialty association member access to geriatric best practices.
- Enhance and expand association and the Hartford Institute’s project websites as vehicles to communicate and disseminate evidence-based, sustainable geriatric nursing clinical content to specialty nursing association members, unaffiliated specialty nurses, and hospitals.
- Collaboratively develop and obtain endorsement of a global vision statement about care of older adults in the hospital setting with 55 specialty nursing associations.
This project focuses on building intensive collaborations with 13 hospital-based associations representing 200,000 specialty nurses to create geriatric educational products and resources and assure the geriatric competencies of their members.
